Bowerman 5k

The Bowerman 5k is an annual road race held in the month of July at the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Oregon.  The 5k is a great opportunity to get the whole family involved in a fun and active event.  Our competitors include young kids, stroller walkers, competitive masters and elite runners, and we encourage all ages and abilities to come and join the fun.  If you’re looking for a 5k personal best, the course is a fast one!  Over the years, the race’s popularity has grown and in 2015 it was rated as one of the 7 Must-Do 5k Races in the United States by Competitor Magazine.

Every year, the event raises money for the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund (AUCF), an organization focused on providing improved healthcare, education and exposure to sport in Uganda communities. The event has supported the AUCF every year since its inaugural run in 2010, and we hope to continue to expand our donation in years to come.  Click the link on the side to learn more and donate to the foundation.

The 2016 Bowerman 5k was a massive success.  We were able to raise over $4000 for the AUCF and with 714 finishers, we had a record number of participants by over 100.  Special thanks to our race organizer, Chris Hough, and all of our race-day volunteers for making this year’s event the best edition yet!  Also, we’d like to give special recognition to 7 competitors who have participated in all 7 races so far.  Larry Merrifield, Eric Kelso, Michael Myman, Nareudee Jayanama, Tim Leier, Joe Gould and Conner Graziano, thank you for your continuous support over the years.

This year, the competition for the men’s title featured what has become an intense Portland rivalry as some of the Bowerman Track Club Elite members squared off with individuals from the Jaquzzi Boys Athletic Club.  In the end, JBAC’s Olympic Trials steeplechase competitor, Carl Stones, was able to pull away from BTC frontrunner, Jordan Welling over the final mile to claim the victory with a time of 14:48.  Welling finished runner-up in 15:03.  With 8 of the top 10 masters finishers, the men’s masters division was dominated by the nationally competitive Bowerman Track Club Masters group.  Leading the way and taking the title was Oscar Bauman (15:35), followed closely by his brother Ahrlin Bauman (15:40).

On the women’s side, the overall race was dominated by a trio of BTC Elites.  Carrie Dimoff (16:40), Emily Pritt (16:50) and Julia Webb (17:00) separated from the rest of the field early in the race, ultimately finished as the only women with a times of 17:00 or faster.  The women’s masters race was won by Deanna O’Neal, a multiple time Bowerman 5k masters champion.  With a time of 18:42, O’Neal was almost two minutes ahead of the next masters female.

We look forward to seeing you next year!
