The Bowerman 5k is an annual road race held in the month of July at the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Oregon. The 5k is a great opportunity to get the whole family involved in a fun and active event. Our competitors include young kids, stroller walkers, competitive masters and elite runners, and we encourage all ages and abilities to come and join the fun. If you’re looking for a 5k personal best, the course is a fast one! Over the years, the race’s popularity has grown and in 2015 it was rated as one of the 7 Must-Do 5k Races in the United States by Competitor Magazine.
Every year, the event raises money for the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund (AUCF), an organization focused on providing improved healthcare, education and exposure to sport in Uganda communities. The event has supported the AUCF every year since its inaugural run in 2010, and we hope to continue to expand our donation in years to come. The 2017 Bowerman 5k was a record-breaking year for the event in both donations and participants. Overall the Bowerman 5k raised $9000 for the AUCF with an additional $3000 coming from donations while the 786 finishers marked an all-time high participants. Thank you to all participants for coming out and making the 2017 edition the best yet! Additionally, a special thanks to all our race-day volunteers who make the Bowerman 5k possible every year.
We’d like to give special recognition to five competitors who have participated in all eight Bowerman 5k races (2010-17). Larry Merrifield, Eric Kelso, Nareudee Jayanama, Tim Leier and Joe Gould, thank you for your continuous support over the years.
In 2017 we saw a storied Portland rivalry continue between the men of the Bowerman Track Club Elite and Jaquizzi Boys Athletic Club. BTC Elite's Jordan Welling held off the competitive field to secure the win with a time of 14:46, besting his run in 2016 by 17 seconds. Sweeping the top 3 spots, the men's masters division was dominated by the nationally competitive Bowerman Track Club Masters group. Leading the way and taking the title for the second straight year was Oscar Bauman (15:53), followed closely by Josh Gordon (15:57) and Ahrlin Bauman (16:11) in third.
On the women’s side, Portland local Lyndy Davis captured her first Bowerman 5k title posting a winning time of 16:45 while University of Oregon graduate Ashley Maton (16:53) and Katy Kunc (17:10) rounded out the top 3 finishers. The women's masters division saw Bowerman Track Club Masters athlete Lorilynn Bloomer win in dominating fashion clocking 17:21 over 5k, over two minutes ahead of the next masters female.
We look forward to seeing you on July 28, 2018 for the 9th annual Bowerman 5k!
