2019 Bowerman 5k Registration is live!
The 10th Annual Bowerman 5k will be held on Saturday, July 20th, 2019! Come celebrate a milestone year for our event which includes these new additions:
TEAMS: If you’re not in the hunt for individual glory, there will now be a team race (5 runners to score) with male, female, and co-ed divisions. You must have 5 runners to complete a team. If you do not find a complete team by race day, you will be entered as an individual.
TRAINING PLAN: Sign up to receive a training plan with Coach Steve Edwards with twice weekly workout sessions starting June 1st. Workouts will be on Wednesdays (6:15pm) at Duniway Track and Saturday (9:00am) at Forest Park (Leif Erikson Trailhead). It will be a great way to get fit for the event, learn a few things, and build the BTC community!
FUNDRAISING: Help us continue to support causes near and dear to our BTC Community. In addition to continuing to support the Julius Achon Foundation, we are adding fundraising opportunities to benefit two causes, including Lopez Lomong's "4 South Sudan" project and "Embrace Oregon", an organization that helps support local foster kids and families, including our own Andrew and Anne Bumbalough. You can have an impact even if you aren’t racing! Encourage family and friends to donate under your registration link. The highest fundraising campaign will receive an exclusive prize!
In addition to all that's new, we'll still have everything you loved about previous years: great vendors, chances to meet our pro athletes, the beautiful Nike Campus, a cool t-shirt, and, most importantly, a great race! Sign up today and we look forward to seeing you all on July 20th!
Thank you participants, volunteers, spectators, sponsors and vendors for making the 9th annual Bowerman 5k the best year yet!
The 2018 Bowerman 5k was a massive success for the event with 900 registrants marking an all-time high participation. Overall the Bowerman 5k raised $10,000 for the AUCF with an additional $2000 coming from donations. Thank you to all participants for coming out and making the 2018 edition the best yet! Additionally, a special thanks to all our race-day volunteers who make the Bowerman 5k possible every year.
We’d like to give special recognition to five competitors who have participated in all nine Bowerman 5k races (2010-18). Michael Nyman, Larry Merrifield, Eric Kelso, Nareudee Jayanama and Joe Gould, thank you for your continuous support over the years.
In 2018, BTC Elite's Jordan Welling continued his domination of the event winning his 4th Bowerman 5k title in 14:39, besting his run in 2017 by 7 seconds. Fellow BTC teammate Jared Carson finished second in 14:50 and Portland local Tate Schienbein was third in 14:53. Continuing the historic rivalry, the Bowerman Track Club Elite Men were able to take the team victory over the Jacuzzi Boys Athletic Club. Sweeping the top 3 spots, the men's masters division was dominated by the nationally competitive Bowerman Track Club Masters group. Leading the way and taking the title for the second straight year was Oscar Bauman (15:17), followed closely by Ahrlin Bauman (16:03) and Brian Livingston (16:09) in third.
On the women’s side, a trio of Portland locals dominated the top spots with BTC Elite athlete Kaitlyn Peale capturing her first Bowerman 5k title posting a winning time of 16:27. HPW athlete Eleanor Fulton (16:49) and Sallie Post (17:12) rounded out the top 3 finishers. The women's masters division saw Bowerman Track Club Masters athlete Lorilynn Bloomer win for a second consecutive year in dominating fashion clocking 18:14 over 5k, over one minutes ahead of the next masters female.
The Bowerman 5k is an annual road race held in the month of July at the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Oregon. The 5k is a great opportunity to get the whole family involved in a fun and active event. Our competitors include young kids, stroller walkers, competitive masters and elite runners, and we encourage all ages and abilities to come and join the fun. If you’re looking for a 5k personal best, the course is a fast one! Over the years, the race’s popularity has grown and in 2015 it was rated as one of the 7 Must-Do 5k Races in the United States by Competitor Magazine.
Every year, the event raises money for the Achon Uganda Children’s Fund (AUCF), an organization focused on providing improved healthcare, education and exposure to sport in Uganda communities. The event has supported the AUCF every year since its inaugural run in 2010, and we hope to continue to expand our donation in years to come.
